Creating Your Campaign Character
Character Mechanics Guide: Cinket Guide to Creating a Character
This WILL NOT be a guide to creating a D&D character, but a set of rules, requirements, and restrict ions to become a viable "main protagonist" of the story. I have it set as a numbered list so that hopefully as you build your character from the bottom up, you can follow the numbered list without having to remember everything.
0. How the Campaign Will Work
Please read over the How the Campaign Will Work page. This details a lot of how I will be running the story and whether this campaign is right for you!
It's a long read, so if you're in a hurry but are down to play D&D regardless of the world, then read the Tone section to get an understanding of what character you should create.
Safety Tools
Please go over the Lines & Veils. This is really important so I get to know what explicit topics you are comfortable or uncomfortable with.
1. Restrictions
Races
There are only a select amount of existing-playable Races in Dorth. If you want to play a different race not listed, please ask me and we can work on integrating it into Dorth.
Location
Just like the races in Dorth, there are only a select number of continents that you can start in for your race. Each continent has their own "personal geography" and "general lifestyle", so please look into that, as some places have race slavery or prohibit magic.
Magic Users
If you plan to be a caster, keep in mind that magic is rare and governed differently in other continents. You can look into the different continents of Dorth and Arcane and Divine Magic.
2. Character Personality
"Hero" Trait(s)
You NEED AT LEAST 1 TRAIT such that your character cares about the world, party, and/or their role as a whole. More is technically better for connecting your character with everything, but I suggest you don't add it if it hurts your character's backstory, roleplaying, or enjoyment.
Here are some examples to get you thinking:
- Wants to make it big. (Ambition)
- Have dream that can achieved by becoming a hero so that they can leave a mark in the world.
- This can extend to achieving fame, acquiring wealth, or gaining power.
- Loves something/someone precious to them. (Responsibility)
- Have something to lose so that they can't just let the whole world burn as you level-up.
- This can extend to someone you want to protect, wanting to prove yourself, or to honor a promise.
- Feels a bit lost in their current life. (Identity/Curiosity)
- Have a lack of direction so that you fortunately or not take the role of being a hero.
- This can extend to questioning their purpose, exploring new possibilities, or searching for meaning in their actions.
- Note: Depending on how you do this, it can be difficult in the sense that this is a flaw that your character will sort out through other characters, NPCs, and experiences throughout the campaign. However, this can develop a character that "screams" of a well-written character.
Starting Location
Everyone will be transported to an unknown location by your Cinket Accessory. Good luck!
3. Backstory & Abilities
Read this before you create your backstory and abilities!
Date & Last Moment in Your Backstory
Please have your last moment in your backstory end in between this range:
- December 1st, 3030 FLC — January 1st, 3035 FLC
- Mini Campaign: August 1st, 3030 FLC — August 29th, 3030 FLC
- 1st One Shot: July 1st, 3030 FLC
- 2nd One Shot: June 10th, 3028 FLC
Your character's journey will start when your Cinket Accessory activates (should activate between those dates).
For Session 1 Characters
Level 1 (Level 2 Cap)
Every player should start at Level 1, BUT I am capping everyone's starting level to be AT MOST 2. This means to NOT have your character fight a bunch of monsters in the Dying Hollows or learn (instead of just read) a lot of spells yet they're still at Level 2.
Because of how Session 0 is constructed, it would be best to have your character start with LITTLE TO NO COMBAT EXPERIENCE (i.e. Level 1).
If you plan to start at Level 2 due to lore reasons — meaning you have experience in combat — then it would be best to have a "combat flaw" for the first few sessions (ex. can't fight without their weapon (doesn't start with their weapon), cocky to fight low-level monster/people, 0 real-world experience). This way, it can balance the first few sessions and have the initial "scripted" events happen naturally.
Limitless Magic
This will be what makes your character(s) special!
Lore + Magic Types
The Limitless Magic Types you are able to wield are heavily dependent by your character lore (Refer to Limitless Magic Lore). Think about what magic affinity type(s) your character will explore and creative choices your character will make for creating spells.
Cinket Accessory
The way you are able to channel Limitless Magic is through a magical accessory. This accessory — preferably wearable or attachable to your body — will be what causes you to be transported and the campaign will start.
At first, your accessory should be mundane and non-magical. You can obtain this item through any reasonable means (ex. your parents gave it to you, or you found it, or it's your wedding ring). Your character should not know that this is a special item ❗
When casting Limitless Magic, you need to preform a certain gesture relating to that accessory. Examples could be "pointing" or "punching" with a "ring" or "bracelet", "grasping" the "amulet" or "necklace", or even "widening your eyes" with "sunglasses" or "Ben-10" with a "wristwatch". Be creative!
You can describe the accessory, but later in the session it may not matter. However, the location of where you put your accessory will change your appearance.
Background
It's important to have some ideas of where you character came from and who they've met. You can create your own village, town or city to help build the world and your character. This way, you and your party can travel to your created location due to certain circumstances 😃, or it's on the way while going through the main storyline.
You should also have some NPCs (Non-Player Characters), like your parents, friends, enemies, and even lesser gods or deities. This will help me as the DM to tie your character more in the campaign!
Note: When creates powerful beings, please take note of the Dorth Timelines and Trient-Gods of the Cinket Realm.
Limitless Magic Spells (Optional)
DM Note: Honestly, don't read this unless you want to min-max; you won't get this until a few sessions in anyways 🤷♂.
Refer to Limitless Magic.
This is a long, long read, so I suggest just reading what you need:
- Look at what Spell Types you can create in the "Creation" part in of your Character Level.
- For Level 1 Characters, you can only create 1 Passive Limitless Spell.
- See what Magic Strength of your spells that you can create.
- For Level 1 Characters, you can only make Strength I spells.
- See how many Limital Effects you can apply on your magic spell.
- For Level 1 Characters, a Strength I Passive Limitless Spell can have 1 Passive Limital Effect.
- Make your magical spell!
- Refer to Limitless Magic Examples for some examples.
- If you need help, don't be afraid to ask me, since this very complicated.
4. Right Before Joining the Campaign
Starting Items

Note: Most likely, you will not start with these items until later in the session 1 or 2.
